So busy!

We have been so busy this last week. I need to do some catching up!

It all started last Friday when some of my old co-workers and I had a wedding shower at my house for one of our other co-workers. It was so much fun and great to see everyone! Sam and Ben went to my parents because it would have been too hard to take care of them and do the shower. Here are some pics from the shower!

The bride, Sara:

Saturday night was Glaserfest. It was a outdoor gathering at Martini Corner to raise money for the John Glaser Memorial Fund and also a fund for surviving spouses of fallen servicemen. John's brother put it together and he did a great job! After that was Sara's bachelorette party so I met some of my old co-workers out at Ernie Biggs in Wesport.

Sunday was Fathers Day, of course. My family came over in the afternoon and we went to Matt's sisters after that. She has a pool in her backyard and the boys went swimming for the first time! I think they really loved it. They were a little unsure at first but start splashing in no time! When Ben woke up on Fathers Day he felt warm and I took his temperature and he had a 101.2 degree fever. Matt's sister checked his ear out and sure enough he had an ear infection in the other ear!

Monday morning first thing I took Ben to the doctor. He is now on another round of antibiotics for his 2nd ear infection in 2 weeks. Poor little guy :( I just hope they don't come back! We were at the doctor but were supposed to be at Deanna Rose with my friends Pooky and Betsy and their kids. Betsy and Pooky are 2 of my best friends since high school. Betsy lives in Denver and was here visiting with her two boys, Oliver and Murphy. Pooky has Anna and is pregnant with baby #2. After they got back from Deanna Rose I met them at Pooky's house and was there the rest of the day until 11:30pm! We basically set up shot at her house - thanks again Pookster for all the hospitality! What I cannot believe is I don't have 1 picture of all the kids together! I take a pic if the boys sneeze and I don't have a picture of this fun outing? What was I thinking?!

Tuesday my Aunt Mary Lou, Uncle Morgan, cousins Riley and Rori came in town from Arizona. We went over to my Aunt Nancy's house so the boys could meet them for the 1st time. More cousins are on their way! Tuesday night we went to Nancy and Will's house for dinner again with Betsy and her boys. Will made these absolutely delicious tri-tip steak sandwiches. They were very nice to have 4 screaming boys at their house :) Betsy brought amazing cupcakes - have you ever had a peanut butter cupcake? OMG- amazing! I made my famous Jill Salad, of course :)

Today my mom and I just ran errands. She hadn't seen them since Sunday so she missed them!

Ok, enough for now. More updates later!

  1. often times ear infections reoccur because they never really went away the first time. chances are your doc put your son on a stronger antibiotic this time. there is a rule of thumb with three infections in 6 months, i think, meaning you should look into tubes; however, it gets tricky because it isn't clear if this infection is one or two. it's likely one. the fluid takes awhile to get reabsorbed and fluid in the ear isn't an infection, but can get infected easily. you are "lucky" that your son ran a fever. mine never does so is harder to tell. well, behavior gives it away I guess :) I am grateful we got tubes and can discuss this with you anytime further; my only regret is wishing we'd done it sooner. the procedure is a breeze. also wanted to add (more unsolicited advice, sorry, but advice is how new moms survive!) that a probiotic would be good while he is on the antibiotic. as they get stronger, they start to wreak havoc on the poor tummy, and he may even wake in the night with diarhea etc, because abx kill good bacteria too. a probiotic like culturelle from target is over the counter and recommended by my pediatrician. you can open the capsule and poor the powder into milk, baby food, whatever. just remember it is easier to know they got it all if you put in a small amt of food or milk instead of a whole bottle, etc. and I think it is best to be consumed right away. you can check with the pharmacist or your pediatrician to be sure, but mine said a whole capsule everyday is fine and safe. you can use yogurt instead as they get older. :) Email me if you have any questions. Ear infections can be hard on moms and dads too!
