Yes, that headline is about us! If you haven't seen on Facebook or heard from me - my boys are really sick :( They both have RSV (a respiratory virus) and sound like they smoke 5 packs of cigarettes a day.
I took Sam to the doctor on Monday because he developed a pretty bad cough on Sunday and had a fever since Friday. He was diagnosed as having bronchitis and not given any tests to look for RSV or anything else. By the time I got home from the doctor, Ben was exhibiting those same symptoms but much worse! I was really worried about his breathing and it coming on so quickly. I took him to the doctor on Tuesday and she did a flu and Strep test, which were both negative. The doc suspected pneumonia so she sent Ben for a chest x-ray, which was all clear, thankfully! She also tested him for RSV, which came back positive. Since Ben has it the doctor said that is probably what Sam has too. RSV can be very, very dangerous in newborns so thankfully they did not get this a year ago!
Tuesday night I called the on-call doctor to ask if we should take Ben to the ER because he woke up and couldn't really catch his breath. After he calmed down he was fine so we didn't take him in. Ben sounded worse on Wednesday (yesterday) so I took him back to the doc. She said he didn't have the classic wheezing like you see with RSV. His was more of a croup type cough and that he might have inflammation in his airways. This is where the steroids come in. She gave him one dose for the inflammation, which was supposed to help his breathing. It worked really well! He sounds a lot better. I have to give him 2-3 more doses at home.
Sam is a lot better but he still has a smokers cough and you can hear a lot of congestion in his throats.
I feel so badly for my sweet baby boys. It makes me feel very, very, very grateful for normally healthy babies. Please pray they feel better soon!

Def praying. You've had quite the week! I hope the warmer weather helps the winter illnesses go away!
