Mothers Day Out

The boys started Mothers Day Out this week and so far, so good! I have to admit, I was very nervous about sending them since it's the first time they have been with anyone except for my parents or Matt's parents. But, it was time for them to get out there and be a part of a group with kids their own age and adults who aren't their family members. Oh yeah, and a day off for me was pretty attractive too.

We had gone a couple of weeks ago to see their classroom and meet their teachers. In their classroom are Thomas trains so of course they loved it! I ask them from time to time, "Are you excited for your teachers, Miss Lisa and Miss Kathy?". Every time I ask, Ben says "And choo choos!". I can't believe he remembers that.

I made their little lunches of peanut butter sandwiches cut into bite size pieces, cut up grapes and veggie straws, and packed it in their matching Spider Man lunch boxes. I now find out it is a peanut free classroom so I guess no more PB sandwiches!

I had pumped the boys up so much about starting school they wouldn't sit still for the obligatory "first day of school" picture when I told them where we were going. Instead, I snapped this:
Then, they really got impatient and were waiting at the door and Ben started crying:

In true Jill style, we were 15 minutes late for their 1st day (are you seeing a pattern here?). The boys walked in proudly toting their lunch boxes and spiffy outfits. We were not in the room for more than 30 seconds before they started fighting over a toy.

My dreams of my boys hugging me goodbye and me smiling in the middle for our 1st day of school picture were replaced by this reality:
(they could not be bothered to look at the camera or even turn around)

I left and everything seemed great! Once I got back to the car I realized I had left my camera so I went back to get it. As I approached the room I heard a loud scream and crying of "MOMMY, MOMMY!" coming from their classroom. In the 1 minute it had taken me to leave and come back, Sam had realized I left and was crying and throwing toys. He never saw me and the teacher handed me the camera without either boy knowing I was there. She gave him his blankie and he calmed down immediately.

The rest of the day went on without incident expect for Sam tackling Ben to the ground and being "bossy" to Ben. The teachers reported that Ben basically played all day long and was really good. Sam played all day too.

The teachers are two really wonderful ladies who have been at the place for a long time and I feel comfortable with them. It was a great experience for the boys and for me!

What did I do with my free 5 1/2 hours , you ask? I cleaned my entire house, washed their high chair covers, washed their Anywhere chair covers, did laundry, and went to the store! It was totally awesome!

Even though it was nice to have free time, I really missed them and the house was definitely not the same without them here with me....they belong here with their mommy :)

  1. That is SO great to hear that they had such a great first day. You are right it is going to be a good thing for them and you. As much as you LOVE having them around, you so deserve to have some time to yourself to do whatever you want. I understand the need to clean, but hopefully in the weeks to come you can do a little shopping, get a pedicure, go out to lunch or do something else fun for YOU! :)

  2. Thanks for looking out for me, Pooky :) I definitely do not plan on cleaning every Monday. I'm thinking this week I might go shopping!
