I got the boys the snow pants...then I bought some boots...made sure they had hats (which they won't wear)...we are ready to go play in the snow! I pictured them looking at the snow and touching it in wonderment since they have never actually been up close to it. As most of our other experiences have proved, nothing ever goes the way I picture it. But, I'm still happy we got them out there...even though their favorite part was watching Maggie run around and have fun.
I finally looked at the sizes of the hats I had been trying to squeeze on their heads. One was 6-12 months, which was fine but the other one was 0-6 months size! Since their heads are already in the 70
th percentile, I don't think that's going to work. I took the hood off one of their coats for next year and put it on Sam. He looked cute but, boy, was he mad!

We brought them outside and were
ok as long as we were holding them:

Even a few smiles while watching Maggie:

Then we put them down in the snow.....

10 minutes later....

...still going strong:

Can you all tell what essential winter clothing item was missing from all those pictures? Yep, gloves. How do I forget waterproof gloves? My friend, Julie, gave me some great advice after I told her they hated the snow. She told me mittens - not gloves and make sure they are waterproof! Well, I had the mittens but they were cotton and totally NOT waterproof. Maybe they would have been happier had their
lil hands not been about to fall off from frostbite. Also, Sam was so upset about me trying to shove the snow boots on his feet that he flexed them in a way that there was no way I could get them on. So, I just put his regular tennis shoes on. Error #2. Can you tell we are new to this? :)
We still want to try and pull them in a sled. I think they would love that! Looking back I should have gotten them a full snow suit. Oh well, I guess I'll know better for next year.
These little guys are usually very happy babies, let me just make that clear. I know sometimes I highlight our moments of weakness but it's just because they are comical. But, truly, they are developing into such smart, happy, active, and talkative toddlers. I still feel incredible gratitude everyday for the fact that they are even here in our life but, now I feel a new gratitude for who they are not just that they are.
Parenting is such a learning process! Good for you to go through all that work. Pretty sure Charlie has never played in the snow!
ReplyDeleteThat was so me a year ago...now I can't keep Austin out of the snow.
